Landscape design includes a safe, well-lit outdoor living space. Landscape lighting in the landscape design helps to accomplish just that. In addition to safety, landscape lighting allows for a more functional landscape design. Proper lighting creates a yard that can be used 24 hours per day. Homeowners can swim comfortably in the pool at night or cook outside in the outdoor kitchen without wondering if packs of wolves are going to come flying out of the darkness. Aside from this ever-practical lighting, the landscape design will always benefit aesthetically from proper landscape lighting.
Now that outdoor has become so popular, it comes with a couple of warnings or concerns. First of all, hot spots are for teenagers, not landscape lighting. This doesn’t mean that your back yard will not be “the place to be.” This just means that extremely bright spots of light do not enhance the landscape design. Outdoor lighting should not prevent people from looking at the landscape design. It should accent and create an ambiance rather than simply shine brightly out at passersby. Don’t ruin the feel of your landscape design with harsh lighting. Fiber optic and LED landscape lighting should be soft and full of depth. In this way, landscape lighting will enhance the landscape design aesthetically, practically, and safely.
