If you are a normal American, you will have to travel somewhere this year. You might have to fly to Scottsdale for a business meeting. You might have to fly to San Francisco to spend Christmas with the family. You might have to fly to Syracuse to attend your daughter’s graduation. Whatever the case, you will either have to get on a plane, a train, a bus, or into the car for a long trip far away from home. In each of these situations, the common denominator is that you will have to pack up enough clothes and toiletries (and whatever else you need) to get you through a few days.

If you want to make the trip itself as painless as possible, you would be better off having luggage that is designed for what you are doing. Most travel today involves an airplane. For a couple hundred dollars, we can board a plane and fly all the way across the country. How simple that sounds. Of course, we have to pack clothes, toiletries, and possibly business or entertainment tools such as a laptop, books, a portable charger or some magazines. Airlines have started charging to check bags into the luggage compartment of the plane. This makes the overhead space in the cabin of the plane worth even more. A good carry-on bag is essential. If your trip is only going to last a few days, you can probably fit everything in the cabin with you. For this, you will require a few different bags. You will definitely need a small to medium sized wheeled bag.

These bags have wheels on the bottom and a collapsible handle on the top. They can be rolled behind you as you walk, making them very easy to get through the airport. With careful packing, you can fit enough shirts, underwear, and pairs of pants in the bag to last you a few days. The hotel you will be staying at likely has an iron, so do not worry so much about wrinkling the clothes. These bags are convenient in multiple ways. In addition to being easy to carry through the airport, you can easily stow them in the overhead compartment on the plane, saving you the extra cost of checking a bag.

With all of your clothes and toiletries in the wheeled bag, you need someplace to carry your laptop and other belongings. A shoulder bag or backpack will work perfectly. Both types of bags will give you room for the laptop, the music player, books, magazines, and any documents you may need to take with you. The bags are usually small enough to fit under the seat in front of you in the cabin. This is important because you are only allowed two carry-on bags. Only one is allowed in the overhead, the other must go in front of you. Suitcases and old gym bags used to work just fine, but there is a better way. You should travel like you mean it. Get the right bags for the job and you will be ready to deal with whatever modern travel can throw at you.
